Learn "hands-on" Hawaiian lomilomi massage with a
"loving touch" with Nerita Machado, 
"Auntie" Margaret's daughter. We are located on the Big Island in Hawaii
along the beautiful Kona Coast at Ke'ei, near the home of the active volcanoes
in Hawaii.
"Auntie" Margaret Machado, now retired, once taught at Captain Cook on the
Kona Coast of the Big Island. She was the only authentic, Hawaiian
kupuna licensed by the state of Hawaii to train therapists under state requirements. She
now serves as consultant when available.
According to "Auntie" Margaret, the Hawaiian word lomilomi means going to and from. In Pukui and Elbert's Hawaiian dictionary they describe lomilomi as "to work in and out, as the claws of a contented cat." For a person raised in the islands, lomilomi means massage.
How "Auntie" Margaret came to have such a healing touch is an interesting
story. Orphaned at a young age by her mother's death, Margaret was raised in
a Missionary Home of O'ahu. Her maternal grandparents and several of her close
family lived at Napoopoo, and she never lost touch with her roots. It was the
Big Island grandfather in particular who blessed Margaret with chants at a
young age and gave her a special name:
"Kalehuamakanoelu'ulu'uonapali Aha'ula Keali'i. " His name was John Au, 
otherwise known as Ko'o from Napoopoo. His nickname Ko'o, meaning very 'strong',
referred to his skills in practicing the art of ho'oponopono, the art of mental
cleansing by the use of discussion, examination and prayer.
The meaning of "Auntie" Margaret's Hawaiian name cannot be found in a dictionary, but the sense of the name implies strength and a never ending ability to give of herself. This name has a tremendous significance for Margaret. She knows and believes that she was chosen by her grandfather at a very young age to have special gifts.
One may ask if it is like a Swedish massage; "Auntie" Margaret says absolutely "no." It's very different she says. "It's a praying work. Each student learns to pray first to God.".
Auntie's daughter Nerita, who now teaches "Auntie" Margaret's method of Hawaiian Lomilomi massage, continues to teach and carry on this tradition to all who are interested in learning 'the loving touch' with a prayer. Dr. Mark Lamore instructs the anatomy, physiology and kinesiology course of study, while Nerita teaches the Hawaiian lomilomi method of massage.
